I am a working fine artist from Lakeland, Florida with over 20 years professional experience including over 100 award recognitions & collections in Fine Art Festivals, Galleries & Art Museum shows across the State and Nationally. I create original one-of-a-kind mixed medium paintings: consisting of layers of hand textured papers, acrylic paints, ink washes, charcoal & pastels. My subject emphasizes strong, independent women often interpreted abstractly within the natural, cosmic, or spiritual motifs of the backgrounds. I do this to suggest that women are more than what they bodily are, that we possess a rich inner life that ties us to nature, humanity and each other. My art also explores uniquely feminine topics such as birth, motherhood, and the womb. Sometimes the figures are presented in deep thought or peacefully reclined or in a state of awe or wonder, or even occasionally in distress or immense physical pain. These explorations are not intended to shock - but, rather to present a kind of modern triptych of our humanity, the very real mystery at the foundation of human life and the experiences we share. I also choose these topics because they are personal to me.
I hope to create a body of work that is not political, but timeless. Although I am aware of the important role art plays in the economic, social and community realms, I do aspire to bring positive social change through the language of art. Some collaborations include: "Women Helping women" - an Art project for Peace & Sustainable life building relations with Rubia (the Women of Afghanistan). Other benefit art projects include: "Sustaining Our Environment" - a United Nations Millennium Goals Exhibit, and, "Art for A Cure" benefit for The Pediatric Cancer Foundation. ---Just to name a few.
